My name is Mrs. Gough. It is my first year teaching. I am very excited to work with the students in my class.
I recently married (August 6, 2005), so I have had a lot of changes in my life. For fun I like to hike, waterski, and
play the guitar.
I am a firm believer in lifelong learning. If I could only teach my students one
thing, it would be that learning is cool. I want to instill in them a love for learning, especially reading.
A
second goal I have is to help the students feel included socially in the school. I want them to know that they have
value. I want them to have friends. I strongly encourage peer tutoring in this school. It is good for students
in general education to learn about those who are different from themselves. It is also good my students to be involved
with their non-disabled peers. I will push to involve my students in school dances, assemblies, Best Buddies, and other
extra curricular activities.
Finally, I am a firm believer in families. I did my undergraduate degree in Marriage,
Family, and Human Development. There I learned that the family system is the most important, and the the school system
is only secondary. I hope to include and inform parents on what takes place in the classroom. I plan to draw from
the strengths of the families, and structure the classroom discipline rules after the rules that are important in the family
system. I am open to all parents for suggestions on what they want for their children.
